that is not so easy to answer.
Video: very good for quick Tutorials or learn a Workflow.
Manual: I have a search option, to find what i need to learn. It give Links in the Text, to go to the next explanation of a important word. I canīt vote, i need both.

I vote for video because personally i can understand much better from reading a book but of course it depends from the quality of the book tutorial vs video tutorial. Sometimes book is greater but for me video works better.

I also prefer a book over videos. A book becuase there is a lot in them like the 3dat books and the Vray Book. Videos are great but sometimes I can not download them and have to be online. I also have to rewind locate. I have seen some great training videos like the recent using particals for grass and trees. It would be nice if that was printable. I can not remember all the steps and have to write it down.

I prefer a GOOD video tutorial over a book because you get to see the movement of things. I like that if I am watching a motion graphics tutorial, I can see what he's dragging around, typing into certain areas as well as if they go over keyboard shortcuts (which they almost never do in books / written tutorials) but I am really open and enjoy both as long as they explain thoroughly why I am doing something.
If I am just aimlessly clicking around it does me no good, both methods need proper explanation.

It takes some extra work, but that's why I just do SCREEN GRABS and WRITE CLEAR Notes (sometimes including time for where the notes are unclear and end up having to go back). I just NUMBER or LIST the steps of the workflow.
This way the notes are shorter and easier to follow after watching.
I also do notes in the book in RED for the workflow to get past the jibber-jabber of HOW the thing works
example: RT CLK > Drop down > Modifier > etc.

VIDEOS
You get to learn much more and faster.
Also - many books do not teach you stuff you get to see on videos.
Videos are made by Pros but also by others so every trick and tip may be registered.
The only con - they take huge amounts of Hard Disk space.
