WIP: Arch-viz class scene
Here's a WIP of an arch-viz interior scene. The main reason for me to create this scene is that I wanted something 'unique' to use it in my mental ray classes. I plan on configuring this scene with multiple light scenarios and camera angles & animations.
A bit early on here (obviously) but I guess my next 'phase of construction' will include creating/adding some cloth objects. I figure drapes at the window areas (I'll probably re-do the ceiling for what I have in mind). I think I'll also drape some cloth across the furniture. I figure the floor will be hardwood and I'll create a large are rug for the sofa/char/ottoman area (hair/fur probably, maybe displaced...dunno yet).
I'll probably try to create a decent amount of detail in this scene by adding little details like light switches, outlets, HVAC grills, etc.
Hopefully it will be an interesting scene once I get all the details in and all the light configurations setup.

Really lovely soft illumination Jeff. You have achieved a nice theatre feel in this scene. What's your workflow to create the self illumination and glare on the downlights?

LOOOOKINNNG GOOOOD!
I call the chair, 'cause the people on the couch have a bad view of the TV.
you should (if you not planning on it now) do some lighting from the TV itself, if it was on, that could be fun.
I did lighting like that in my kids room when I re-did it last year. thats pretty realistic how you show it, I was hoping for a more even lit ceiling, not the highlighted edges. My ceiling has a blue cloudy sky painted on it.

Sounds like you made your kids a neat room!

I call the ottoman!!!! Sucks to be you, Skyline!
Looking good, Jeff. Is there a reason the middle light is out above the TV?
Keep us posted!

I created that section before I made the decision to put a television there. If I put a light source in that fixture it shines directly on the TV screen which would suck in a major way if setup like that in a real room.

great start, how do you control the quantity of the glare?? I been playing around with it but if I have a strong light the glow shader is way to much.

here are pics of my ceiling. I took one to show the spread. the paint is semi-gloss, it was supposed to be flat but the guy mixed it wrong and I didn't notice until i was painting. I think flat paint would help it be a softer spread, don't know.
this is done with rope lights, the are behind the crown is painted white to help the light bounce. it lights the room well with even light with no hot spots. in the 3rd and 4th pics you can see. with those lights off it's almost completely dark in the room.

Looks great! Thanks for the reference. BTW, if I didn't know those were photos I'd swear it was CG especially with that hard falloff on the light! lol
